If a player have a pair of eight or pair of aces, then that would be a good opportunity to split, regardless of whatever the value of the card that the dealer shows. Splitting a pair of aces gives the possibility of resulting two blackjacks, which would then multiply the funds that you have, a sixteen is a strong hand to play. With this, it is good to always split a pair of eights for a greater chance of greeting 18 in either hands.
Insurance as they say is a sucker's trademark, not unless you are counting cards. The odds will work against players when they bet on insurance. Because of this, only few people chooses to have place the bet.
If you have a hand that's between thirteen and sixteen, pray that it is not a lost, and hope that the dealer is showing the 6 or lower than that. If you are in this kind of situation, just stay in the game. Indeed it is torturous sitting with a low hand, it will just pay off once the dealer busts.
If once the dealer shows a card of ten, just continue hitting your hand until you reach a total of 17 and beyond. If you will just stay to anything that is less than 17, there will be a big chance that you will be running on the loose. Always assume that the down-card of the dealer is ten, which commonly occurs in blackjack.
